In another major action against illegal communal encroachment in the national capital, Delhi government authorities have sealed an unauthorised madrassa built over plots meant for jhuggi dwellers in Bawana.
The case concerns plots bearing numbers E-707, E-708 and adjoining plots in E Block, SRS Bawana, Delhi, which were meant for housing purposes for displaced/slum-dwelling families.
Instead, according to an internal probe by the Delhi government on a complaint pursued by anti-encroachment activist Preet Singh Sirohi), the plots were taken over and converted into a madrassa.
An official communication issued by the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB), Office of the Executive Engineer C-12, shows that a sealing/eviction/demolition programme was fixed for removal of encroachment on the vacant/cancelled plots on 7 May 2026.
The letter, addressed to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Outer Ring Road, Rohini, sought adequate police assistance for the operation. It specifically mentioned that notices had already been issued to the unauthorised occupants of the plots.
The order also requested deployment of adequate police force, including women police personnel, to ensure peaceful execution of the sealing/eviction action.
Following the scheduled action, the illegal madrassa was sealed by officials.

Larger Vision: Bhoomi Suraksha Fund
To complain against such encroachments and pursue those until lawful action, Sewa Nyaya Utthan Foundation (run by Swati Goel Sharma and Sanjeev Newar) has launched Bhoomi Suraksha Fund.
In the above case, the research and legal complaint filed by Save India Foundation were supported by this Fund.
Earlier, legal work supported by this fund led to the demolition of the over 30,000 sq ft Faiz-e-Ilahi Mosque complex in Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan–Turkman Gate area and Dargah Panchpeer in Mongolpuri.
