A complaint regarding massive encroachment on valuable government land, green areas and parks in Phase 3 and 4 of JJ Colony, Seelampur, Delhi, was acknowledged by the Executive Engineer, C-8, Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB), in an official letter dated 9 May 2025.
Following an inspection, the department confirmed that the illegal structures and locations mentioned in the complaint existed, including religious structures and numerous commercial shops encroaching upon government/public land. The letter further stated that the land falls under JJ Colony Phases 3 and 4, Seelampur, whose jurisdiction had been transferred to the MCD in 1988, and that action against unauthorised constructions and encroachments falls within the MCD’s jurisdiction.
Accordingly, the complaint was forwarded to the Deputy Commissioner, North Shahdara, MCD, for necessary action.
The structures include:
1. Illegal cemetery inside the District Park. 2. More than 50 illegal commercial shops. 3. Illegal Ayesha Mosque inside the District Park. 4. Allah Wali Mosque inside the District Park. 5. Illegal Madarsa Zeenat-ul-Quran inside the District Park. 6. Illegal Dargah of Hazrat Sabra Rahmatullahi Alaiha. 7. Karbala Anjuman Ghulam-e-Panjatan inside the District Park. 8. Illegal Gol Masjid on land designated for a nursery school. 9. Illegal Jama Masjid on green land. 10. Mullahs’ Iron Market (Loha Mandi) on green land. Additional encroachments: More than 150 illegal meat shops and commercial shops, all allegedly operating on encroached government land.
After inaction by authorities, petition filed in Delhi high court challenging these encroachments.
