Jodhpur, Rajasthan: This report documents yet another decisive intervention for Bharat’s most vulnerable – this time in the case of Moomal Devi, a Pakistani Hindu refugee widow and single mother of three, living without even the most basic safety around her home.
Having fled Sindh, Pakistan, after facing religious persecution and entering (legally) Bharat to preserve her Dharma, Moomal Devi and her husband Narsingh resettled in a refugee slum colony on Jodhpur’s outskirts in 2014. After four years, Narsingh passed away due to ill-health, leaving Moomal Devi alone to fend for herself, her children and her ailing mother-in-law.
When the Rashtra Jyoti team met Moomal Devi through our on-ground network, she said that every day, stray cattle, dogs and other animals entered freely – trampling belongings and scattering stored food. The situation also left her little children in constant fear and unhygienic conditions.
The boundary of her house had collapsed several months ago. She endured this without the means to fix it.
Sewa Nyaya Utthan Foundation stepped in. Relief was immediate.
A sturdy wall and protective fencing have now been built around her home. The difference is total – her children can play and study without disruption, she can step out to work without worrying what she will return to and the household is finally free from the daily intrusion and filth.
