Wife Brutally Attacked for Resisting Christian Conversion; NHRC Steps In After Rashtra Jyoti’s Complaint

Share

Rashtra Jyoti has filed a complaint to authorities, including National Human Rights Commission, against a disturbing case of forced conversion, domestic violence and human rights violations reported from Tundla area of Firozabad district in Uttar Pradesh.

As per multiple reports, the victim, Jamuna Devi, has accused her husband Brijmohan alias B.M. Messi and in-laws of pressuring her and her minor daughters to abandon Hindu Dharma and adopt the religion he has converted to.

Key facts from the victim’s testimony to police and media:

  • The couple married 11 years ago as per Hindu rituals. She and her family were unaware of the groom’s secret conversion to Christianity that time.
  • After marriage, he barred worship of Hindu deities at home.
  • He forcibly took their daughters, now aged 10 and 7, to a church for baptism.
  • Jamuna Devi was often beaten up by her husband for resistance to his efforts to make her and her daughters convert.
  • Last week, she was attacked with scissors by him.
  • Her in-laws also joined in the pressure for conversion.
  • She had to flee to her parental home after an attack on 6 September.

Rashtra Jyoti urged National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) for urgent action to protect Jamuna Devi and her children, and demanded strictest punishment for this coercion and display of religious hate.
