Shobha Yadav, a 27-year-old single mother hailing from Bihar but now residing in Delhi in a rented accommodation, has approached Sewa Nyaya Utthan Foundation (SNU) seeking legal assistance.
According to her testimony, she was deceived by a man who initially introduced himself under a different identity, induced her into quitting her jobs as househelp, made her move in with him and enter into a live-in relationship through false representations, pressured her to convert her religion, and later disappeared from their shared residence along with her gold jewellery.
Based on this testimony, SNU had given a complaint to Delhi police as well as escalated the matter to National Human Rights Commission member Priyank Kanoongo.
Below is the complainant’s version of events, as narrated to SNU Director Swati Goel Sharma.
According to Shobha, she came into contact with a man through Instagram in March 2023. The account used the name “SK Yadav,” and during their conversations the individual introduced himself as “Suresh.”
Shobha was a divorced woman and a single mother of a three-year-old daughter. Shobha sustained herself and her child by working as cook in houses in CR Park area of Delhi.

The two met in person approximately two months later. She alleges that the man told her that he was unmarried despite being significantly older than her – about 20 years older – and expressed a desire to marry her and provide a stable future for her and her daughter.
Relying on these representations, she entered into a relationship with him and eventually moved into a residence with him in DDA Flats, Kalkaji, in 2024. The two began living together and were in a physical relationship.
Shobha says the man had assured her that he would pay for the household expenses and school fee of her daughter, and in return she must perform all “wifely duties” for him. Shobha had agreed.
Shobha alleges that after approximately one year, she discovered that the man’s real name was Shahid Parvez and not “Suresh” as she had been led to believe. He had concealed his religious identity. When she confronted him, he allegedly replied that she would not have consented to the relationship had she known the truth at the outset.
She says that she soon learnt that Parvez was already married and had an eight-year-old son. According to her, these facts had never been disclosed to her despite repeated discussions about marriage and a shared future.

Shobha says that when she confronted him regarding the deception, he told her that she had no option but to accept the situation or leave the residence.
She stayed.
According to Shobha, Parvez now told her that she would also have to convert to Islam.
She says she initially resisted but was subjected to physical assault and pressure. Parvez subsequently took her to a mosque in the Okhla area in an attempt to obtain documents relating to conversion and nikah.
As per Shobha, clerics at the mosque declined to facilitate the process. She says that Parvez then visited several other mosques in Okhla seeking a conversion certificate and nikah-related documentation, but his requests were turned down. One of the clerics, as per Shobha, said, “We can tackle the police. We can’t tackle Bajrang Dal’.
A few days later, Parvez brought two documents and asked her to sign them, telling her that they were nikahnama. She says she signed the documents written in Urdu without understanding their contents.
A rent agreement dated March 2025 reviewed by SNU records her name as “Sibra Parvez, wife of Shahid Parvez.”
Shobha says that in March 2026 she learnt that Parvez also had an 18-year-old daughter, another fact he had concealed from her. According to her, the couple argued over the issue but continued living together.
On the morning of 9 June 2026, she discovered that Parvez had disappeared from the residence. His personal belongings, including clothes, had been removed, his mobile phone had been switched off, and he could not be contacted.
Shobha’s gold jewellery – comprising a pair of earrings, a nose ring, a necklace and maang tikka – were also missing.
Shobha has provided the following documents to SNU.
- Photographs showing her wearing the jewellery that is alleged to be stolen
- A screenshot of the Instagram account named “SK Yadav” allegedly used by Shahid
- A copy of Shahid Parvez’s Aadhaar card
- A tenant verification document showing Shahid Parvez’s details and recording Shobha’s name as “Sibra Parvez”
- A copy of Shobha’s Aadhaar card recording her name as Shobha Kumari.
At the time of publishing this report, a formal complaint to Kalkaji police in Delhi as well as National Human Rights Commission, seeking a probe into the allegations of Shobha, had been sent to Kalkaji police station by SNU. The matter is awaiting action and investigation by the relevant authorities.
